There will be over 2,200 kids playing for hundreds of trophies and over $20,000 in scholarships! Chess & Cactuses – 9 Queens Honors Kosteniuk at Tucson Chess Fest

Hello everyone!

I just came back from a wonderful trip to Tucson, Arizona, where I visited the 9 Queens Chess Fest. There were lots of chess activities for kids and grown-ups, it was one of the best chess promotion events I’ve ever been to!

I was able to meet  a lot of new chess friends, play a simul against 40 players (I won all 40 games), and even the next day enjoyed the warm weather, which allowed me to take lots of photos of beautiful cactuses. I would like to thank especially Jean Hoffman and Vicky Lazaro who worked round the clock with a great group of volunteers to make this Fest a great success. Check 9 Queens Blog & Facebook page. Also check out my photos below.

Analysis Game Kosteniuk – Kovanova (Chess King Theater)

Today I’d like to share with you a detailed analysis of my game from the recent Russian Team Chess Championships from Loo-Sochi against Baira Kovanova. It’s a very interesting Ruy Lopez opening and shows a nice battle of a good Knight against a bad Bishop. To publish my game on my blog I entered the game into Chess King and used the easy Export-to-Blog button.

Remembering my Coach Yuri Razuvaev

The 29th of December 2011, after finishing a long series of tournaments, I called my Coach Yuri Razuvaev. The last years I would always call him after tournaments and hear his opinion on how I had done. I had no idea that it would be our last conversation. Having just finished the European Championship, on March 19, I wanted to call him as soon as I returned home. But on arrival, I found out that he was no longer with us…

It’s cool to see myself featured on a stamp. Actually over the years I have collected lots of stamps with me on them, it would be nice if one day I got a letter with one of those stamps or if I could use those stamps for my letters! :-)

Below you can see the stamps bigger.

Hello everyone!

Following the June 2011 press release about my collaboration with exclusive watchmaker Pasquale Gangi, the day finally arrived (on January 15, 2012) when 5 numbered specimens of the famous chess pocket watch were created and ready to be presented to the press and to the public. This happened at the Geneva Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie. I was full of emotions holding in my hand such a jewel, especially thinking it was created to time chess games. Let me share with you my photo album of the event below. Feel free to email me with questions or post comments below.

Kosteniuk visits the Zurich Chess Club

Hello everybody!
On January 13, 2012 I was invited by the famous Zurich Chess Club to give a simul to Swiss VIP’s in the club’s “Savoy Corner”, which appropriately took place in the wonderful Savoy Baur-en-Ville hotel, right at ParadePlatz. After a lecture, in which I commented one of my games to the audience, I gave a simul to 9 players, three of which played 2 games at the same time, so in all I played 12 games. I won all my games except one draw, which I made with the organizer of the event, Mr. Christian Issler. You can watch photos of the event in the gallery and at the end of the post some of my personal sightseeing photos taken the next day in Zurich. Read more…
